Notes: The exposed spine of this Augsburg binding reveals a sewing onto split alum-tawed thongs with the boards attached in a manner typical of Italian bindings, with the supports cut off and adhered to the outside of the boards and not laced through. This method of board attachment is quite common for Augsburg shops, and I have also seen it used in Ulm work by the Dinckmut bindery.
