Arabic Letterpress: History & Revival is an event open to the public and held at Beit Waraq in Beirut, exploring Arabic letterpress printing and bringing together talks by Aya Krisht and Samer Bou Saleh. The talks will shed light on the history of Arabic letterpress as a crucial yet overlooked cornerstone of Arabic typographic development, as well as its contemporary revival, fostering knowledge and understanding around both history and practice.
Maamoul Press co-founder, Aya Krisht will present on the history of Arabic letterpress based on her extensive research and practice in letterpress printing; while Hadeel Studio founder, Samer Bou Saleh will present on his efforts to collect and preserve letterpress type, equipment, and practice in Lebanon, reviving this craft amid its local disappearance.
The talks will be followed by a demonstration of how letterpress printing works, allowing participants to interact with metal type specimens and pull their own letterpress prints.
